In commemoration of the 10th anniversary of Cory Monteith’s tragic death in 2013, Lea Michele took a poignant moment to honor her former boyfriend and fellow Glee co-star.
“Hey you,” Michele expressed on Instagram. “A decade has passed. It feels like just yesterday you were here, yet it also feels like an eternity ago. I cherish all our memories deep within my heart, where they will remain safe and never forgotten. We miss you every single day and will forever remember the brightness you brought into our lives. I miss you, my dear friend.” Michele also mentioned Taylor Hawkins, the Foo Fighters drummer who sadly passed away in 2022, saying, “I hope you’ve found Taylor up there, and that you’re playing the drums together.”
Monteith and Michele played love interests on the hit TV series Glee, which premiered in 2009. During the time of Monteith’s untimely demise, attributed to accidentally mixed drug toxicity, they were romantically involved off-screen as well, according to Us Weekly.
As reported by Yahoo! Entertainment, Michele assisted showrunner Ryan Murphy in organizing a private memorial for the show’s cast and crew. The series resumed production with grief counselors on set and paid homage to Monteith’s character, Finn, through a deeply emotional memorial tribute episode.
Lea Michele has frequently expressed her admiration for Monteith on her social media platforms. On the second anniversary of his passing, she wrote, “I know you would want us all to laugh and smile today… So we think of you and reminisce about all the laughter and joy we shared together. You will forever hold a special place in my heart.”
