Following the arrival of her baby Shai earlier this month, Naomi Osaka’s focus remains on tennis.
The 25-year-old tennis champion and her boyfriend Cordae welcomed their first child in July. Cordae, the rapper, disclosed their daughter’s name during a performance at Canada’s Calgary Stampede a few days later. According to People, he said to the audience on July 11, “My daughter Shai was just born a couple of days ago, so I dedicate this performance to my baby girl Shai. Love you, I’m going back home.”
Now, Osaka has shared the initial glimpse of baby Shai in an adorable onesie with a tennis theme. Her Instagram post featured the caption, “Well, that was a delightful little break. Now, let’s get back to the usual program 🎾✌🏾💕.” The post also included a few pictures of her during her pregnancy and a selfie taken at the hospital.
In January, the four-time Grand Slam winner announced her pregnancy by posting a sonogram photo on Instagram. She wrote, “Can’t wait to get back on the court, but here’s a little life update for 2023.” In the second slide, she penned a personal note to her fans, expressing, “The past few years have been quite eventful, but I’ve come to realize that it’s during life’s most challenging times that we find the most joy. These past few months away from the sport have given me a renewed love and appreciation for the game I’ve devoted my life to.”
She continued, “I’ve come to understand that life is short, and I cherish every moment. Every day is a new blessing and adventure. I know there’s so much to look forward to in the future. One thing I eagerly anticipate is for my child to watch one of my matches and proudly say, ‘That’s my mom.'”
Naomi Osaka will continue her break from professional tennis for the remainder of 2023, but she plans to participate in the Australian Open in 2024. Truly a delightful interlude indeed.
