In a heart-wrenching incident near Swinford, Ireland, Ciaran Keating, the older brother of Boyzone singer Ronan Keating, lost his life in a fatal car accident. The 57-year-old Ciaran was on his way to watch his son Ruairí play football for Cork City FC against Sligo Rovers when the tragedy occurred.
The accident took place around 3.55 pm on the N5 at Ballymiles, a notorious accident black spot. Ciaran sustained fatal injuries in the collision, while his wife Ann Marie, who was traveling with him, was taken to Mayo University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the second vehicle is undergoing treatment for serious injuries, and a male passenger from the same vehicle was also hospitalized.
Ciaran Keating and his family had relocated from Dublin to Mayo fifteen years ago. He was known to work as a car salesman and had previously managed a bar. Besides his business endeavors, Ciaran served as a board member of the Marie Keating Foundation, a charitable organization established by the family after their mother’s passing from breast cancer in 1998.
Ronan Keating, who was in South Africa with his wife Storm at the time of the tragic incident, declined to comment through a spokesperson. The family’s privacy was requested to be respected during this difficult period.
Cork City FC, in a statement, expressed their profound sadness at Ciaran Keating’s passing. They offered their deepest sympathies to Ruairí Keating and the entire Keating family and requested privacy for them. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
The League of Ireland also extended its condolences to the Keating family, particularly to Ruairi, in a tweet expressing their sympathy.
Local figures, including Westport councilor John O’Malley and Christy Hyland, an Independent member of Mayo County Council, offered their heartfelt condolences to the grieving family.
Ciaran Keating is survived by his sister Linda, brothers Gerard and Gary, as well as his own family, and his younger brother, Ronan.
The tragic loss of Ciaran Keating has left the Keating family and the community devastated, and their thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.
